Abstract
Recent advances in generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) have enabled students to obtain mathematical solutions and proofs almost instantly, raising important questions about the teaching of proof in school mathematics. Drawing on research on proof in mathematics education, this paper argues that proof learning should extend beyond proof production toward students’ abilities to interpret, critique, compare, and explain mathematical reasoning, including AI-generated proofs. The paper proposes AI-Supported Proof Inquiry (ASPI) as a pedagogical framework for supporting inquiry-oriented engagement with proof in AI-rich learning environments.
