Abstract
Powerful use of technology has the potential to radically alter the nature of
classroom mathematics. Fundamental issues related to the use of technology
can transcend the boundaries of the type of technology used and the level of
schooling. Examples from the Calculators in Primary Mathematics project
will be linked here with parallel examples and discussion from the research
literature in order to explore some of the effects of technology on the nature
of mathematical activity, classroom practice and the curriculum.
