Abstract
One of the first major changes in mathematical technology used in upper
secondary school mathematics in Victoria was the introduction of
logarithmic tables in the early twentieth century. Information about this
change and the reasons for it is difficult to come by, yet much can be gleaned
from such examination papers and official publications as survive.
Understanding of this process is of interest as an early example of the
introduction of technology into the mathematics classroom, a phenomenon
of particular interest in our own times.
