Using Students’ Algebraic Thinking to Support Teacher Learning
Shikha TakkerThis paper reports a preliminary study aimed to utilise the potential of students’ thinking and learning to support teacher learning. The paper begins with a review of research on algebra teaching and learning with the objective of identifying and analysing tasks that relate research on students’ algebraic thinking with the practice of teaching. It then discusses a task based on students’ algebraic thinking developed and tried with a cohort of middle school teachers from Mumbai. Insights from the study and its implications for continuous teacher professional development are discussed.
