Kirsti KislenkoStudents’ beliefs about mathematics were the focus of a pilot study based on fieldwork carried out in Norway in early 2005. A web-based Likert-scale questionnaire about beliefs in mathematics was administered to students in 6 schools from one urban area. Two hundred and seventy-six students from grades 7 (12-13 years), 9 (14-15 years), and 11 (16-17 years) completed the questionnaire. Despite lacking interest in mathematics, students acknowledged the usefulness, importance, and need to work hard in mathematics.
