Abstract
Generative AI has intensified concerns about assessment integrity in both face-to-face and online education, prompting interest in oral examinations as an alternative to written assessments. While oral assessment research is established in universities, little is known about enabling programs. This study compares written and oral mathematics assessments in an enabling cohort. Although group-level performance was similar across delivery modes, individual results differed markedly. Weak, non-significant correlations suggest the two formats capture complementary aspects of student understanding, supporting the value of multimodal assessment for diverse learners.
