Tim BurgessA study of teacher knowledge, necessary for and used in the teaching of statistics investigations, was conducted in four New Zealand primary classrooms in 2006. This presentation reports on the framework that was developed to describe the components of teacher knowledge with regard to statistics. The framework integrates six dimensions of statistical thinking with four types of teacher knowledge: knowledge of content, both common and specialised; and pedagogical content knowledge, related to both students and teaching. Video and stimulated-recall interview data were analysed in relation to the framework to develop descriptions of knowledge used in the real-time tasks of teaching.
