Abstract
This paper reports on a multi-site initiative aiming to improve mathematics teaching for Indigenous language-speaking students. The Mathematics in Indigenous Languages Project is developing a framework to identify and use mathematical registers in Australian Indigenous languages. After three years, we provide a cross-site update, highlighting insights from a functional typological approach. Focusing on classification and comparison, we show how this method helps navigate conceptual, semantic, and structural non-equivalence when mapping mathematical expressions across languages.
