Abstract
This study investigates how third- and fourth-grade students conceive of prices and what challenges and potentials these conceptions present for the development of financial numeracy. Drawing on pre-intervention interviews from a Design-Based Research study aimed at fostering financial numeracy, students' explanations of price formation were analysed using qualitative content analysis. The findings show that many students initially interpret prices as objectively measurable quantities. At the same time, students were able to draw on diverse funds of knowledge when reasoning about pricing.
