Vince Wright and Jenny Young-LoveridgeThis paper reported the influence of the Numeracy Development Projects (NDP) in revision of the number strand of the New Zealand mathematics curriculum. It documented how four types of teaching and learning research frameworks were synthesised to provide evidence for validity of the number framework and associated pedagogies. Examination of students’ responses across number domains showed consistency and suggested a general growth path. Strategy stage norms to set expected levels of achievement were described and challenges posed for mathematics teaching and learning.
