Abstract
This paper reports on the parental roles of Year 6 and Year 8 mathematically gifted students. A survey is used to evaluate the parents? roles as motivators, resource providers, monitors, mathematics content advisers and mathematics learning advisers. Interview data provides further insights on parents? perspectives on children?s mathematical development from early years to current schooling and future aspirations. The results provide evidence that dispels the myth of the ?pushy parent? and raises implications for parent-school
relationships.
