Abstract
Private mathematics tutoring has expanded rapidly in Australia, yet little research has examined how agencies advertise their services or how promotional claims align with school curriculum and pedagogy. Using Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), this study analyses promotional texts from five Australian mathematics tutoring agencies. Cross-case analysis identified discursive themes through which advertisements interact with students, parents, and tutors to legitimise tutoring participation. The paper shows how these discourses shape understandings of mathematics learning and success.
