Abstract
The study of secondary mathematics has been largely inaccessible for students with intellectual disability and options for studying mathematics reduce as school years increase. In this paper we discuss seven barriers that secondary mathematics teachers indicated they faced in teaching year level adjusted mathematics curriculum in the junior secondary years. These teachers were part of a research project undertaken in Queensland schools over three years. We address these barriers and offer approaches for enabling inclusive mathematics practice.
