Abstract
This paper aims to investigate what images of a whole that Grade 4 students have when solving problems involving unit, proper, and improper fractions. Data were collected through fraction tasks, post-test on fraction schemes, and interviews. Coding of the data reveals that the students had visual and symbolic images of the whole. However, they have not had a flexible and connected image of the whole across the fractions.
