Abstract
This paper highlights two m~or research approaches into studying how students judge area, logical-operations and infonnation processing. The logical-operations approach focuses on detennining the order in which students acquire area knowledge based on a framework devdoped by Piaget. The infonnation processing approach focuses on perceptual judgement. The paper assesses the two approaches in tenns of appropriateness for future research
