Abstract
This paper reports on the quantitative data gathered during the second and
third years of a 5 year longitudinal investigation into the attitudes of
preservice primary teachers towards mathematics and toward the teaching of
this subject. Findings indicate that teacher education programs can improve
the attitudes of preservice teachers towards mathematics, and that this shift in
attitude can continue to improve well into the first year of teaching.
