John LeyThis is a presentation on a focus question approach to teaching mathematics (FFQA) which is the title of my thesis. It is proposed to investigate the impact of the FFQA at the commencement of each mathematics lesson on the learning and motivation of students. The style of five questions that I propose to investigate has the first four questions as instrumental style questions that focus on procedural knowledge, with the final question using a relational understanding approach with some of the questions being open ended investigational style questions focusing on conceptual knowledge. The research is ongoing.
