Jaguthsing DindyalThree pre-service teachers (PST) who had no prior experience with lesson study had to use a lesson study approach to plan and teach a problem solving lesson. This paper documents how the three PSTs were initiated into the Japanese style of lesson study and then how as a team they went about planning their research lesson on problem solving for a primary three class and then teaching it. The focus is on some of the issues that surfaced when preparing this problem solving lesson on magic squares and how they addressed them.
