Abstract
This study examines the mathematical concepts of "fairness" and" expectation" in probabilistic situations. The subjects were 40 high school students in Semester I, Year 11. Maths in Society classes in three Queenslandhighsthools:Twenty "gamble;s~'were identified by questionnaire and subsequent interview; A control group of similarly achieving "non-gamblers" was selected.
